A landmark work telling the stories of frontline soldiers through dance.

★★★★★ The Independent ★★★★★ The Observer ★★★★★ The Herald ★★★★★ The Scotsman

In 2008, choreographer Rosie Kay joined the 4th Battalion The Rifles, to watch and participate in full battle exercises, and visited the National Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. What came of these observations was the award-winning, five-star work 5 SOLDIERS: The Body is the Frontline.

"A disturbing, illuminating and neccessary glimpse into a world we mostly prefer to ignore", The Guardian, Top 10 Dance of 2015

A visceral ‘tour de force’ of the senses, 5 SOLDIERS has a powerful physicality, moments of humour and is full of honesty, all inspired by careful observation and input from serving and former soldiers. The story is one of physical and psychological transformation, using the body as a shared medium to start conversations about identity, discipline, motivation and trauma.

Last year, the show sold out a two-week run at Edinburgh Fringe in association with Summerhall. The show was also livestreamed from a London military base accessed by over 70,000 online viewers in partnership with Sadler’s Wells, The Space and BBC Arts.

Rosie Kay is choreographer of the Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony and the hit film Sunshine on Leith. Her trademark style of intense physical and athletic dance theatre aims to thrill and move.
