En route from John O'Groats to Land's End on his Brompton folding bike, prize-winning baritone David Jones pauses to perform Vaughan Williams Songs of Travel alongside folksongs from his journey. Song Cycle is in support of Yehudi Menuhin's charity Live Music Now.

Song Cycle is firstly an exploration of Vaughan Williams's song cycle Songs of Travel, with words by Robert Louis Stevenson. How does the experience of a long and arduous journey change the singer's approach to these songs?
With their Scottish words and English music, the Songs of Travel are a quintessentially British expression of the emotions associated with travel and being in nature. On his thousand-mile journey, David will pass close to the birthplaces of both Stevenson and Vaughan Williams and through the landscapes that inspired their work, developing and deepening his interpretation of the songs as he goes.Alongside the Vaughan Williams songs, he will perform folk songs from the regions he passes through, in a mixture of existing settings and newly-commissioned arrangements, with a focus on the region in which the concert is being given.

This second strand of the project relates to Vaughan Williams's own work in collecting folk songs across Britain in the early twentieth century. In addition to research at the English Folk Dance and Song Society before the project, there are plans to open an onlineportal for people to submit examples of their favourite local songs.
A prizewinner in the 2015 AESS Patricia Routledge English Song Competition, David Jones is equally at home in song, oratorio and opera. He has a
particular interest in new music, and has given premieres of works by Nick Bicât, Stephen Deazley, Louis Mander and Josh Spear.
Recent highlights have included Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte for the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and Sharpless in
Madam Butterfly for the King's Head Theatre. He toured the UK as part of Joshua Sofaer's innovative Opera Helps project and is a soloiston Yehudi
Menuhin's Live Music Now scheme.
