Provost welcomes Ryder Cup boost

Provost Liz Grant today expressed her pleasure at the enormous success of The 2014 Ryder Cup, held at Gleneagles.

"The hard work and expertise of Council teams, working alongside partners including the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, Police Scotland, The Gleneagles Hotel and, of course, Ryder Cup Europe, has helped to make The 2014 Ryder Cup an outstanding success. I'm delighted to say that over two years of planning have resulted in a well-organised and trouble-free event," she said.

"It is difficult to overestimate the scale of the event, with over 50,000 people on site each day. That the transport worked so smoothly was testament to the careful preparation that has gone into The Ryder Cup. I would also like to thank local people for their continued support, patience and encouragement."

"Of course, the event will also leave a lasting legacy across Perth and Kinross, from the boost to infrastructure, tourism and business, to the many local projects funded by the Council's Community Challenge Fund.

"Finally, I would like to congratulate Europe on a hard-fought victory here at the home of golf. I'm sure both teams will always remember the beautiful scenery, enthusiastic crowds and wonderful atmosphere that have made this Ryder Cup so very special."
