Residents are being urged to remain vigilant after reports of a scam phone call claiming to be from the Perth and Kinross Council’s Housing Benefits team.

One local resident said they were contacted by someone pretending to work for the service and were asked to join a WhatsApp group.

The Council has confirmed this contact is fraudulent and stressed it would never contact residents in this way.

A spokesperson said: “If you receive a similar call, please do not follow the advice given. We would not ask residents to join WhatsApp groups.”

Anyone who believes they may have been targeted is advised to hang up immediately and report the call to the Council or to Police Scotland on 101.
