Ludus Baroque and local Perthshire-based singers perform Handel’s thrilling oratorio Athalia

In pursuit of unearthing ambitious Handelian masterpieces, Ludus Baroque is performing Handel’s spectacular oratorio Athalia this summer, for what appears to be its very first showing in Scotland.

This epic work involves five separate chorus roles which will be assumed by the tour-de-force singers of Ludus Baroque and local amateur singers.

British soprano Anna Dennis will take the title role of the mad Queen Athalia, returning to Ludus Baroque after sublime performances as Beauty in Handel’s The Triumph of Time and Truth on 1 May 2014, also at St John’s Kirk in Perth. The ensemble is also reunited with top international soloists and Ludus Baroque ‘regulars’ Ed Lyon, tenor, and William Berger, baritone, as well as welcoming counter tenor Andrew Radley for his debut with the group. Andrew’s international touring includes appearances at the world-famous Göttingen Handel Festival and Scottish audiences may know him from his role as Medoro in Scottish Opera’s recent Orlando productions
