Three killed during Scottish car rally event

It has been reported that three people are dead and one in a critical condition after a car collided with spectators in the Scottish Borders.

It is emerged that a car came off the track and collided with spectators of the Scottish Car Rally race in the Scottish Borders.

Police Scotland confirmed the event had been canceled with an immediate effect.

An air ambulance and full scale of emergency services are at the scene which happened around 16:00 hours today (31st of May)

Two hours earlier four people were injured and were treated by emergency services.

One witness told BBC News: "it was just one car which lost control. It went sideways one way and then to the other side of the road and ploughed into four people.

"It was terrible, absolutely terrible. I ran to help but there was little I could do. The air ambulance arrived after about three quarters of an hour. There were police cars and ambulances. It was chaos, just chaos."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Three people died this afternoon after a car collided with spectators at the Jim Clark Rally near Kelso at around 4pm.

In an earlier incident at 2.05pm, a rally car collided with five people. Four were treated at scene, the 5th person taken to hospital.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene of the 4pm incident. A 4th person was taken to hospital in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were in attendance. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing."
