Pupils to get Ryder Cup volunteering experience

A group of Perth and Kinross secondary school pupils will be amongst the 1,800 volunteers helping to keep The 2014 Ryder Cup running smoothly.

The fifty 16-18 year olds were nominated for the opportunity by their schools, and will be supported by chaperones while they are on the site. Throughout the competition the pupil volunteers will be working at scoreboards spread across the course.

Councillor Bob Band, Convener of Lifelong Learning, said: "This is an amazing opportunity for 50 of our senior pupils to get first hand experience of one of the major sporting events in the world. Not many 16-18 year olds will be able to say that they have helped worked the scoreboards at a major international golf tournament.

"Being able to offer pupils this experience helps to cement the commitment to make The 2014 Ryder Cup an event for the whole community which leaves a lasting legacy. In this case the legacy is the lasting impact of this once in a lifetime experience."
