Yarn bombing in Perth

Perth & Kinross Council Perth City Centre Team, Eva Christie (Eva Christie Hand Knitting) and volunteers from Perth Knitters and elsewhere have worked together to brighten up Perth city centre with some colourful and creative 'yarn bombing'.

It’s bright, it’s quirky and most of all it’s fun. Each street has been bombed using a different coloured yarn to match those colours used in the Shop Local Perth guide. There are a few additional surprises along the way too!

With the plan of having this completed by the beginning of Ryder Cup week, knitting needles have been frantically clicking to produce the copious amounts of knitting required for this project. All the volunteer knitters came together on Sunday 21 September in the Fergusson Gallery for a ‘Wool Weekender’ where the final touches were made to all knitted pieces before installing.

The nature of Yarn Bombing is of course usually covert, but this Yarn Bomb project has already been talked about on social media in the bid to attract volunteers, but the final effect will hopefully still surprise and amuse residents and visitors to the city.
