Legal highs set to be banned

The Queen announced in her speech today legal highs are to be banned in the UK.

AS today unfolds, the Queen announced major changes following Queen Speech that was announced earlier today. Such as legal highs are to be banned across the United Kingdom. The subject has been a popular topic for Perth.

After numbers increase of addictions and hospital visits. The Courier highlighted the subject with a business owner in Perth who was happy to sell legal highs but did state people should get help for their addiction.

Police Scotland support the decision, but the NHS are yet to comment on the announcement.

According to the Guardian The Home Office said that one of the main elements of the psychoactive substances bill would be a ban on the trade in “any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect”, with a maximum seven-year prison sentence to back up the ban.

But it quickly added that “substances such as alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, food and medicinal products would be excluded from the scope of the offence”.

Ireland introduced the same plan in 2010.
