Perth Archery Club Members straddle the Shooting Line

Archers in Britain can thank the Norman invasion in 1066 for archery becoming widely practiced. Today it remains alive and flourishing for more pleasurable reasons in the welcoming atmosphere of Perth Archery Club.

The club spends the winter months indoors at Perth High School but for the next six months they are outdoors at the beautiful setting of Doo'cot Park thanks to the Gannochy Trust.

Ian Heywood the club Vice Chairman explained the background. "We have been in existence now for three years. We take it seriously but it's also relaxing. We have our own internal competitions as well as competing against others beyond Perth. In Steven Havranek we have the number eight in Scotland. All ages and levels ate catered for including a Junior Section and the needs of disabled persons keen to take up the sport."

The club place a premium on safety and comply with all national safety rules of the sport in setting up the field and agreed signals when archers can shoot and retrieve their arrows.

"We provide beginners with all necessary equipment to try out and we have qualified coaches to help guide. Everyone is welcome". The club has its own website and is now on Twitter at @PerthArchery.
