Death of serving Police Officer in Perth

Police Scotland confirmed that an off duty serving officer from its Tayside Division has died while out cycling.

Steve Salmean, 50, fell ill while cycling near Little Ballo, Abernyte, Perthshire shortly after 10am on Saturday 27th September 2014. The father of two had 27 years Police service, initially beginning his career in the Metropolitan Police before transferring to Tayside Police in 1993 where he has worked as a beat officer, Scenes of Crime Officer and latterly served in the road policing unit.

His wife Allison is a serving sergeant with Police Scotland.

Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Higgins of Police Scotland paid tribute to PC Salmean and said: "Steve was a highly respected officer, extremely well liked by his colleagues and always thoroughly professional in his work.

"His death is a great tragedy and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with Allison and his family."

His widow, Alison has asked the media to release details so that anyone who knew Steve Salmean can be informed of the sad loss.
