Wyllie Recycling fined £6k following fire incident

Wyllie Recycling have been fined £6,000 by Perth Sheriff Court today 9th July, 2014.

Ten fire crews from Scottish Fire & Rescue service spent several hours battling against the flames which left a huge black smoke whirl across Perth.

The company who dumped 55 lithium batteries on site with a no valid licence admitted the breach to Perth Sheriff Court. In a BBC Report Sheriff William Wood said: "The particularly concerning feature of this case is not so much the fire, as the potential for loss of human life. It's a fact that where there's a fire when people are working it is a dangerous situation."

The company was fined £6,000 in total and admitted four charges to the incident. Wyllie Recycling have made improvements since the fire.
