Paddling dragons race in Perth

Perth & Kinross Council, in partnership with the Perth Chinese Community Association, is looking for enthusiastic and energetic people to take part in a Dragon Boat Race on Sunday.

Perth & Kinross Council, in partnership with the Perth Chinese Community Association, is looking for enthusiastic and energetic people to take part in a Dragon Boat Race on Sunday, June 15th running in conjunction with the closing events for the Perthshire Adventure Festival.

There are 12 teams in total with 17 spaces per team. Eight teams will be filled with members of the general public, with the remaining four teams being reserved for members of the Chinese community.

Places can be booked individually, please note a full team of 17 is not required to enter.

The event will be broken down into three rounds where everyone will compete, racing two teams at a time. There will then a grand final where the fastest three teams will race once more. The three teams racing in the final will be based on the fasted individual race time posted and not an aggregate time of all three of their races.

Participants must be at least 16 years old.

Provost for Perth and Kinross, Liz Grant, said: “Once again by working with the local Chinese community we are able to bring their culture to the city and hopefully inspire people to get involved and have fun. The Dragon Boat Race will be a unique feature in our calendar of events this year and I’m sure that it will be a great day for everyone taking part.”

Andy Chan, Chairman of the Perthshire Chinese Community Association, said: “The Perthshire Chinese Community Association is delighted to work in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council once again.

“Working on such a cultural event has helped our association meet its aims and objectives in particular promoting cultural harmony, equality and diversity amongst the communities in Perth and Kinross so as to foster integration and community cohesion.

“I look forward to a great day full of energy and excitement.”

The event costs £10/person plus booking fee.

Perth Crematorium: FAQs
