The aircraft was flying between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpar after taking off leaving at lunchtime today. Malaysian Airlines passenger jet is thought to have been shot down over the Ukraine

A Ukrainian interior ministry adviser said 280 passengers and 15 crew members are dead after a Malaysian airliner crash, Interfax reports.

It has been reported that separatists shot down the Malaysian passenger plane.

Malaysian Airlines said that nine British citizens were on board the plane that crashed in eastern Ukraine.
