A new event for Perth’s Winter Festival is proving so popular that organisers have had to more than double capacity.
Perth Santa Run, a 5km fun run through Perth’s city centre, will take place on 6 December. It was originally expected that around 200 participants would take part. Demand for places has been so high that the Santa Run has now increased capacity to allow up to 500 runners to participate, with almost 400 places already snapped up.
Anyone wishing to take part is advised to sign up online for one of the last 100 places as soon as possible. Registration is first come, first served, and will close on Saturday 22 November.
Nicholas Kydd, organiser of Perth Santa Run, said: “I’m just amazed by the level of interest in the Winter Festival’s first ever Perth Santa Run. So many people have already signed up, particularly families from young to old. I really can’t wait to see the stream of runners in their red and white Santa suits covering the route!”
Perth & Kinross Provost Liz Grant, said: “I’m delighted that Perth Santa Run has really captured the imagination and the festive spirit of the people of Perth and Kinross. This year’s Winter Festival is bigger than ever before, with many new events taking place. Perth Santa Run is a fantastic addition to the Winter Festival and I’m sure it will be a great success.”
The Santa Run is open to all ages and all levels of fitness. Runners will be given a Santa suit to wear during the race and at the finish line they will receive a goodie bag and a medal, which doubles up as a Christmas tree decoration.
Runners who continue to wear their Santa suit during the day will also be eligible for a list of special offers from city centre retailers and the Farmers Market.
Sign up for the Santa Run at www.eventfull.biz/index.php/sporting-events/perth-santa-run.
Entry costs £11 per adult and £6 per child (under 16). A family ticket costs £28 (for two adults and two children.) To purchase a child’s ticket, register children as individuals during the online booking process and enter the code ‘CHILD’ into the coupon box, prior to making payment.
For those keen to cheer on the hundreds of runners in their Santa suits, the Santa Run will start from Perth Concert Hall at 12pm, and will finish on the North Inch at 2pm. The route will first take runners along Mill Street, Kinnoull Street, High Street and Tay Street. Runners will then cross Queen’s Bridge before continuing along Dundee Road, Gowrie Street and over Perth Bridge. After a final stretch on Tay Street, the route ends with a circuit of the North Inch.
