At Edinburgh High Court today, David McLeish (49) was found guilty for numerous rapes and sexual assaults of young girls and women. He was also found guilty of physically assaulting women and young boys.
This was a protracted police investigation carried out by the Public Protection Unit based at Perth in the North Command area of Police Scotland. From the commencement of the enquiry in early 2013, it was identified that David McLeish had, throughout his adult life, been a violent and sexual abuser of women and children. McLeish was today convicted of numerous charges including rapes and sexual assaults, the majority of these occurring within the family setting.
The aim of Police Scotland is to keep people safe. One of our key priorities is to protect vulnerable people by bringing offenders like David McLeish to justice.
Since early 2013 Detectives from the Public Protection Unit conducted a thorough investigation which was both complex and sensitive in nature and required the assistance and co-operation of McLeish’s past victims, other Police Departments and partner agencies.
Detective Sergeant Marshall McKay, who lead the Investigation Team said:
“David McLeish is a dangerous individual, who physically and sexually abused his domestic partners and their children throughout his adult life. I would personally like to thank the women and their families for the strength and courage they have shown in coming forward. In doing so they have ensured that McLeish has been brought to justice and cannot move on to abuse another unsuspecting family.
