Bauer Media Group announces Alan Smith as new Scottish political correspondent

The Bauer Media Group, which operates radio stations across Scotland, has appointed Alan Smith as its new Political Correspondent.

The Bauer Media Group, which operates radio stations across Scotland, has appointed Alan Smith as its new Political Correspondent.

 

Smith, currently News Editor at Radio Tay in Dundee, starts in his new position on Monday August 31 and will deliver political news to Bauer’s audiences across Forth, Clyde, Tay, West Sound, Northsound, MFR and Borders stations.

 

1In his new role, the experienced radio broadcaster will be based at the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood. He also been producer of Bauer’s weekly Scotland’s Talk In show every Sunday, which has featured many prominent political figures including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, former First Minister Alex Salmond and leader of the Better Together campaign Alastair Darling.

 

Looking ahead to starting his new role, Smith said: “I’m absolutely honoured to be taking up the position of Political Correspondent in Scotland for Bauer during what is a truly unique period in this country’s history.

 

“I’ve enjoyed a tremendous career at Bauer so far and have a huge passion for politics. That is mirrored by Bauer’s investment and commitment to allowing us to report the biggest news and issues to our audiences across the country in the best way we can. I can’t wait to get started.”

 

Smith started his broadcasting career with Kingdom FM in Fife in 2003 having spent a year doing work experience there while studying at the former Glenrothes College. From there he moved to Radio Tay as a reporter for a short period before re-joining Kingdom FM as News Editor. A year later he was called back to Radio Tay as Head of News and Sport – and then News Editor – until this latest appointment.
