Mackie’s at Taypack are bringing something slightly unusual to the Chinese market in the form of sweet crisps – their two newest products will be Strawberry and Salted Caramel flavoured potato crisps.
Those with a sweet tooth will be disappointed to hear that these more adventurous flavours of crisp will be sold exclusively in China, with no plans to be brought to the United Kingdom market just yet.
They are launching at the SIAL China Trade Show this week, which is the 4 th biggest food show in the world and will see around 80,000 visitors over the 3 days.
The flavours came about as a request from their Chinese agent who noticed a gap in the market and a demand from the Chinese consumer for a sweet flavoured potato crisp.
Although Mackie’s Crisps currently export to around 23 countries worldwide, China is their largest export market with an average of 4 containers of their crisps being shipped to Shanghai every month. Each container can hold up to 50,688 bags of crisps.
These brand-new flavours come on the back of lots of exciting export development for Mackie’s at Taypack, for which they have received lots of recognition – they were shortlisted for Small Exporter of the Year at the HSBC Scottish Export Awards this year, and have got their fingers crossed for the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards this week where they are up for Export Business of the Year.
James Taylor, Commercial Director for Mackie’s at Taypack, commented on the exciting new flavours saying: “We are thrilled to be able to bring something so innovative to the Chinese crisp scene, as a key export market for us we are constantly investing in it and are hopeful that this bold move will pay off”.
