A man has been sentenced to prison following a fatal motorcycle crash on the A9 near Auchterarder in May 2023.

The collision between a motorcycle and a car occurred around 11:30 p.m., May 19, 2023. Emergency responders pronounced the motorcyclist, 63-year-old John Hammerton, dead at the scene.

Martin Gibson, 58, was sentenced Wednesday at Dundee Sheriff Court to 15 months in prison and banned from driving for more than 22 months.

“Our thoughts remain with John’s family at this time,” said Inspector Gordon Dickson, head of road policing for Tayside. “Gibson’s actions highlight the devastating consequences of dangerous driving and its lasting impact on victims, their families and friends.”

Dickson urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly at junctions and in rural areas. “We all have a responsibility to take care on Scotland’s roads,” he said.
