Firefighters Tackle Blaze at Derelict Building in Perth

Emergency services are currently responding to a fire at a derelict building, formerly known as Balhousie Primary School, at Muirton Place in Perth.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are in attendance at the scene, with six fire appliances dispatched to tackle the blaze.

An update issued early this morning advises nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke in the area.

The public is also being asked not to contact the Operations Control room regarding this incident, as it is already being dealt with by crews on the ground.

Police Scotland have confirmed that an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with wilful fireraising. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
