From June 22nd – 24th Solas Festival 2018 will take over The Bield in Perthshire for its annual celebration of music, arts & ideas.

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Drift’ exploring internationalism, journeys, change and cultural fusion. The weekend-long event will see music from Scottish artists to performers who have travelled from around the world. As well as music we can expect a wide range of speakers and ideas, visual arts and performances, panels and so much more.

Music
Solas Festival has a huge bill of music performances with artists coming from far afield to play as well as local talent from around Scotland. 47Soul will be performing with a fusion of hip-hop and pop lyrics in both English and Arabic. Other acts set to take the stage are Adam Moffat & RM Hubbert, Tide Lines, Grace Petrie, Scottish Opera, Mary Ann Kennedy, Siobhan Wilson, LUCIA, Dancing on Tables, Real Life Entertainment and many many more.

You will not be stuck for choice at this year’s Solas Festival…there will be plenty opportunities to have a boogie!

Talks, workshops, panels & more…
Over the course of the weekend there will be talks, panels and informed debates from a variety of speakers. With speakers from arts, sciences, politics and humanities discussing a huge range of topics. You can hear from the likes of Professor Sir John Curtice, Mike Russell, Lesley Orr, UNESCO Chair Professor Alison Phelps to name a few. Gameli Tordzro will be hosting workshops on storytelling, music and graffiti and that’s just the cherry on top!

I was very lucky to attend Solas Festival last year as a volunteer (I was the one walking around asking questions and interviewing people- nothing changes). Solas is a family friendly festival, a home away from home, an all inclusive and creative space. A festival where me and my 20-odd-year-old friends were welcomed to dance and sing the night away with families, performers, artists and organisers. Where we spent an afternoon playing catch and rounders in the sun with people we had never met before, a weekend fuelled by bubbles, bright colours and boogie-ing.
