Over 8 million households in the UK will get a cash payment from July 2022 to ease cost of living pressures.
After ministers confirmed initial payments would begin from 14 July 2022, the Department for Work and Pensions has now revealed how many people in each part of the country will receive the new financial support. They have also revealed that the disability top-up will land in bank accounts in September 2022.
Work and Pensions Secretary, Thérèse Coffey said:
With millions of the lowest-income households soon seeing the first of two cash instalments land into their bank accounts, we are taking action to directly help families with the cost of living.
This one-off payment totalling £650 is part of our £37 billion cost of living support package that will put an extra £1,200 into the pockets of those most in need.
Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has strongly welcomed the cost-of-living support payments being delivered by the UK Government.
Commenting, Mr Fraser, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “Many families and individuals in Perth and North Perthshire are struggling with the effects of the cost-of-living crisis now. They are seeing energy, food and fuel bills rocket and are having to make increasingly tough decisions.
“That is why this intervention from the UK Government is so welcome. They have recognised the pressures people are facing and this will deliver support to those who need it most in the region.”
Mr Fraser continued: “This money will go directly into your bank account if you are eligible and hopefully ease the pressure whether you are putting fuel in the car or paying for the weekly shop.
“The UK Government have once again stepped up and their total cost-of-living support now totals£37 billion.”
