Trendy local coffee shop, Mhor Coffee House has closed its doors due to mathematical certainty, the owners have said.

Mhor Coffee Shop opened during the pandemic in 2020 offering a vibrant modern look serving premium coffee, freshly baked cakes and scrumptious bagels. The coffee shop had it’s own unique style with a warm welcome by manager Ellen and their former colleague Drew.

The owners of Mhor Coffee said on their Facebook Page: “We are extremely sad to announce that Mhor Coffee House, on Kinnoull Street in Perth, has closed its doors.

Since we opened in October 2020, we have loved being at the heart of Perth’s community. The coffee house provided a welcoming smile and bright moments for many people during the darkest of times. We are incredibly grateful to all those who have supported us, both our customers and our suppliers, over the last 21 months.

We have also been overwhelmed by the spirit and camaraderie of our fellow independent café operators who were always generous with their time and advice. We hope the public will continue to support them in order that Perth can maintain a healthy network of thriving independent businesses.

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved the ongoing financial impact of the slow pandemic recovery, stagnant city centre footfall in Perth and recent rapid inflationary costs were just too considerable for us to fight.

We are not the first to go as a result of the current economic situation, and we firmly believe we will not be the last unless those in power wake up to the very real challenges facing small businesses who are trying to recover from the pandemic.

Lovely place for a coffee and all of their staff were fab. Giants like Starbucks, costa etc drive these wonderful places out.

Its the rates that pkc want from small businesses that causes closures like this, Costa and Starbucks can afford their overheads and utilities with ease places like Mhor cannot.

Get rid of the dinosaurs in the council snd get some people in there that are in touch with reality Perth is a joke.

Units as small as this are rates exempt, under ScotGov incentives. So youll need to seek other reasons, like those given by the business themselves perhaps.

Its depressing to see Costa and Starbucks in line of sight of this place always hoaching, with much more expensive and inferior coffee. Folks have no one to blame but themselves. They pick what they know or TikTok tells them to rather than trying the many indie gems around.
