The Scottish Brass Band Association will be host to musicians from over 20 countries during the European Festival of Brass 2014 which is taking place throughout Scotland from 26 April until 11 May.
The Association has selected the City of Perth to hold the gathering’s key events including the 2014 European Brass Band Championships, the sixth European Solo Championships and the inaugural European Youth Brass Band Contest.
In addition, the engagement of communities across the country during the extended festival period will present a diverse variety of showcase performances, workshops, exhibitions, master-classes and presentations to spotlight Scotland’s musical heritage on a global stage.
Provost Liz Grant commented: “I am delighted the European Festival of Brass has chosen Perth to hold its main events. I am looking forward to welcoming the finest brass bands in Europe as well as the European Youth Brass Band to our city.
“I am also looking forward to attending the sixth European Solo competition. This showcase event attracts performances from Europe’s most talented musicians.”
Two centuries of bands in Scotland will be on display at Perth Museum & Art Gallery from 26 April to 11 May 2014 and as part of the celebrations, the Museum & Art Gallery, in association with Perth Film Club, will be hosting a screening of the 1990’s classic “Brassed Off” starring Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite.
