Perth & Kinross Council’s Community Greenspace team worked with nine volunteers from SSE’s Perth office to improve drainage on a path that links residents of Redgorton with a bus stop beside the nearby dual carriageway.

The works were carried out at the request of Luncarty, Redgorton and Moneydie Community Council as the path is an important link in the local transport network.

The volunteers scraped a couple of tons of mud and dug a ditch to the nearby pond so that the path drains in future. They also re-shaped the track down to the problem area from Redgorton. This should allow water to be shed off it before it accumulates in the hollow.

Alex Cook, Chairman of the community council thanked the volunteers the following day and said: “the news of the repair was well received at last night’s meeting.”

Owen Mackenzie, who was part of the team of SSE volunteers who helped out on the day, said: “My colleagues and I were delighted to get the opportunity to improve this path which is an important access link for the local community.

“Our Community at Heart days mean a lot to us and this was a perfect example of what we can achieve with a bit of hard graft and dedicated team-work.”

Greenspace Rangers, part of the Community Greenspace team, are working increasingly with volunteers to improve and develop public green spaces, including paths through the countryside.
