Residents of Perth and Kinross have only a few days left to make sure they are registered to vote in this year’s European Parliamentary Elections.
The elections will be held on Thursday 22 May 2014. The deadline for registering to vote, or updating your address details if you’ve moved house recently, is Tuesday 6 May.
The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 7 May and for a proxy vote, (where you appoint someone to vote on your behalf), is 5pm on Wednesday 14 May.
Registering to vote for the European Parliamentary Elections will also ensure mean you are registered to vote for the Scottish Independence Referendum in September.
The registration process takes only a few minutes. You can contact the local Electoral Registration Officer for Perth and Kinross on 01738 630303, email perth@tayside-vjb.gov.uk or visit in person at Robertson House, Whitefriars Crescent, Perth PH2 0LG.
Alternatively, registration forms can be printed off from the Electoral Commission’s website, www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, and the Electoral Registration Officer’s website at www.tayside-vjb.gov.uk
The Electoral Registration Officer, Alastair Kirkwood, said “Registering is quick and simple. Even if you think you’re already registered it’s really important to double check. Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay Council Tax, but this isn’t true. If you’re unsure, you can contact the Electoral Registration Office to check.”
