Dad of two Craig Russell, who works for SSE Enterprise Telecoms in Perth, was recently joined by his son, Fraser, and friend Campbell, to abseil down Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The superhero trio raised over £5,000 which will be used to help kit out the new Teenage Cancer Trust unit with fridges and TVs. This will help make the surroundings as comfortable as possible for young patients and their families.

Craig explains why he took on the challenge: “My eldest son Gavin has been receiving treatment at the Teenage Cancer Trust unit within Yorkhill since last October.

“The support both my son and our entire family have received from the hospital has been fantastic and I wanted to help give something back.

“So we donned some superhero costumes and made the 120ft jump. I’m delighted with the amount we’ve managed to raise.

“The Teenage Cancer Trust unit makes a huge difference to a young person’s stay in hospital. They provide specialists and comfortable surroundings for young people aged 13 to 24.

“There are a few colleagues I know within SSE who have gone or are going through treatment for their kids. The Teenage Cancer Trust and similar organisations can’t be thanked enough for the work that they do.”

Vanessa Todd, Regional Fundraiser for the West of Scotland said “Thank you so much to Craig, Fraser and the Russell family and friends for showing so much support to our Yorkhill Abseil Challenge. They have raised a phenomenal amount of money at a really difficult point in their lives. The day was a huge success and it was amazing to see so many people putting the fun into fundraising, thanks so much.”
