Retired men in Perth and Kinross will now be able to take part in wood crafting workshops, thanks to an award of £9,008 to the Perthshire Woodcrafters.
The grant will go towards a gazebo and marquee, tools and accessories allowing the group to attract more members.
Mike Nairn, Perthshire Woodcrafters, Chairman, said: “Perthshire Woodcrafters are elated to have received funding from the Big Lottery Fund. We cannot stress enough that this means so much to the Club as we are now able to attract further new members and introduce many new disciplines to existing members now that we are in a position to purchase more of the right equipment and to further promote our craft in the wider public domain.”
Also receiving funding today is Abernethy Community Cinema, which will use its £10,000 award to bring film to communities in Perth and Kinross. The funding will enable the group to purchase a film screen, sound equipment and projector.
Meanwhile, Chapelhill Community Association, Project Northern Lights and Moncreiffe Primary School also based in Perth and Kinross, receive grants of up to £10,000 for their local community projects.
An Awards for All spokesperson, said: “Today we are announcing over £1 million that will support projects helping to improve the lives of hundreds of people in communities across Scotland. In Perth and Kinross, five community projects are sharing £47,713 funding, proving that even the smallest amounts of money can make the biggest difference.”
Ms Ahmed-Sheikh said:
“Winning these grants is a significant success for both these organisations, and so I congratulate them and look forward to seeing the positive difference this investment will make in these two Perthshire communities.
“Local village halls can play a vital part in the lives of local people, so it’s great to see local people pulling together in Chapelhill, while a community cinema would be a great addition to Abernethy’s nightlife.
“I look forward to meeting with representatives from Awards for All and the Big Lottery Fund in Parliament next month to see what else we can do to increase the number of local organisations receiving this type of funding in the months and years ahead.”
Ahmed-Sheikh plans to meet lottery chiefs next month to discuss how to provide more funding for charities and community groups in her constituency.
