A prestigious writing competition is open for entries for the Soutar Competition for Children and Young People.
This writing competition which is organised by Culture Perth and Kinross is now in its fifteenth year and encourages youngsters to pen their creative short stories. The closing date for entries is Thursday 1st December 2016.
This is an annual writing competition for children and young people which alternates between poetry and short stories. For 2016, a short story may be entered.
Entry is free and open to children and young people aged 9-11 years and 12-15 years. First prize of an iPad, second prize of £50 of book tokens and a special prize draw for schools with more than 50% of eligible pupils entered in the competition will be available in each category.
The winners will be announced at an event to which all shortlisted writers will be invited. Competition judge Lari Don, a professional author and storyteller who has written extensively for children and young adults, will make the announcement and present the prizes. All winning and highly commended entries will be published in eBook format and available to borrow from the Culture Perth and Kinross eBook catalogue.
The competition is being run by Culture Perth and Kinross with sponsorship from Aberdein Considine. Entry forms and competition rules are available online at www.pkc.gov.uk/storychildren2016 or from all libraries in Perth and Kinross.
