Perth Gazette is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of its official mobile application, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in September.
Established in 2013, Perth Gazette has built a strong reputation for delivering timely, reliable, and engaging news. With mobile traffic increasing steadily each month, it became clear that the majority of our audience now access our content via smartphones. In light of the changing digital landscape and the growing challenges posed by social media algorithms, we recognised the importance of providing our readers with direct, instant access to the latest news and events — on their terms.
Our new app has been designed with a clean, modern interface and offers a fully native user experience. Key features include:
- Push Notifications for instant updates.
- Critical Incidents for Perth areas, this can be from a road incident to a power cut.
- Light and Dark Mode for personalised viewing.
- Bookmark Functionality to save articles for later reading.
- Custom Navigation by selecting up to two categories of your choice and can be changed at any time.
- Live Football Scores which gives you real time scores for the Scottish Football League and Championship, of all teams by prominently St Johnstone FC will dominate at the top.
Push notifications can be customised via the in-app settings, with two options currently available:
- News Notifications – Sent whenever a new article is published on the Perth Gazette website, covering a broad range of topics. These are typically scheduled during reasonable hours, such as morning to early evening.
- Breaking News Alerts – Delivered for major incidents, developing stories, or urgent updates deemed newsworthy. These may be sent at any time; however, if your device is set to silent during certain hours, the app will respect that setting.
We are committed to expanding our push notification categories in the near future, allowing readers to subscribe to specific topics of interest.
The Perth Gazette app aims to offer our community a seamless, reliable, and accessible way to stay informed — anytime, anywhere.
How can I get early access?
If you are using an iOS device, you may request an invitation by emailing us. To access our app, you will need to install TestFlight, Apple’s official application for beta testing.
TestFlight operates in a similar way to the App Store, but is specifically designed to distribute apps for testing prior to their public release. While the Perth Gazette app will be available on the App Store in the near future, we are currently inviting users to participate in this pre-release phase to help us identify and resolve any potential issues before the official launch.
