Around 80 Primary Six and Seven pupils from Tulloch, Craigie and Arngask Primary Schools attended a Show Racism The Red Card (SRTRC) workshop hosted by St Johnstone FC at McDiarmid Park on Monday 28 April.

As well as being educated about the problem of racism, the children met St Johnstone players for autographs and a question-and-answer session, went on a stadium tour, and had a fun and fitness coaching session from the SRTRC Team.

The event also included a workshop based on Show Bigotry the Red Card educational information, which has been introduced by the Scottish Government to teach young children about the issue of sectarianism.

The session was funded by the Perth & Kinross Community Safety Partnership and supported by Perth & Kinross Council, as part of their continued partnership with SRTRC and St Johnstone FC.

Councillor Jack Coburn, Vice-Chair of the Community Safety Committee, said: “There is no place for racism or bigotry anywhere, and this is a wonderful opportunity to reach some of our younger citizens, giving them an insight into the negative effects racism and bigotry can have. We made sure that as well as carrying a serious message, the day was full of fun and enjoyment for the kids.

“This event for youngsters continues our very successful partnership work in this area. We are very grateful to St Johnstone FC and Show Racism the Red Card for their continued help, support and commitment to this area of work in Perth and Kinross.”
