Changes to Blue Badge Scheme in Perth and Kinross

Local drivers and passengers in Perth and Kinross who suffer from severe mobility problems and  have been awarded a Blue Badge will no longer need to collect it in person from one of Perth & Kinross Council’s Customer Service points but rather receive it by post. 

This move comes in response to customer feedback and after benchmarking with other Scottish Councils.

The initiative by the Council’s Parking Services Team in conjunction with the Blue Badge Improvement Service will begin on Monday 4 August 2014 and  will not only improve service delivery for the less mobile but also ensure a quicker service at Council’s Customer Service points by reducing footfall.

Perth & Kinross Council Environment Convener Councillor Alan Grant commented: “This improvement in service delivery is very welcome. It removes the need for our more vulnerable residents, who have been granted a Blue Badge due to their mobility problems, to make a special trip to collect their Badge.

“This is an excellent scheme which provides a range of on-street parking concessions enabling Blue Badge holders to park closer to where they need to go.

“I would,  however,  like to take this opportunity to remind users and potential applicants that although the scheme operates throughout the UK,  not all off-street car park operators provide parking spaces for disabled people. It is up to individual car park owners to decide whether badge holders can park free of charge.”

The Council receives 2800 applications for Blue Badges annually. Successful applications meet strict eligibility criteria that is set out in legislation.
