ORGANISERS of the Relay for Life Perthshire are excited to announce that the event will take place on Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st June 2015 on the North Inch, Perth.
Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life is a unique celebration of life and hope which unites communities to help beat cancer and culminates in a fantastic family and team event.
Teams of between 8 to 15 people – of all ages, levels of fitness and from all walks of life – are now needed to take part in the overnight fundraising festival in Perth over the weekend. During the Relay itself, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys a wide range of fun activities on offer. As Relay For Life is non-stop through the night, those team members not on the track take turns to rest, eat, or sleep in their tents, which are set up close by.
As dusk falls, the atmosphere quietens as the Candle of Hope ceremony begins. The event is the most poignant part of Relay For Life when specially made Candle of Hope bags – decorated with touching messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones – are filled with sand and lit up with candles around the North Inch.
This is the first time Relay for Life has taken place in Perth. Now the committee of volunteers staging Relay for Life is looking for local support to help make it a tremendous success.
As well as recruiting teams, they are searching for motivated people who want to help organise the event itself and get the whole community involved. The organising team are still looking for people to come on-board. The team are recruiting a Survivorship, Media and Candle of Hope Team Leaders.
Scott Jewell volunteer Event Leader of Cancer Research UK’s Relay for Life in Perthshire, said: “We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more about Relay For Life and how they can help.
“It is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a seriously worth-while cause. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Taking part in Relay for Life is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a real difference.
“Cancer Research UK wants to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. By taking part in Relay For Life and raising vital funds, people in Perthshire can help to accelerate the progress that is being made against this devastating disease.”
