Council celebrates community involvement in The 2014 Ryder Cup

A civic reception will be held at 2pm on Sunday 14 September at the Gleneagles Hotel for community representatives who have contributed to the area’s celebration of The 2014 Ryder Cup.

The reception will see the presentation of prizes for:
Best commercial shop display related to The 2014 Ryder Cup
Greatest contribution by a golf club to the Legacy aims of The 2014 Ryder Cup
Best community bloom display related to The 2014 Ryder Cup
Best residential garden display related to The 2014 Ryder Cup
Best 2014 Community Challenge Fund Project
Generous donations from Ryder Cup Europe and the Gleneagles Hotel mean there will be some fabulous prizes on offer.

The event will also showcase the Council’s Legacy projects, including the willow sculpture trail; geocaching initiative; Green Drive; Community Challenge Fund; and the Ryder Cup Educational Resource.

Provost Liz Grant said, “I am absolutely delighted at the way in which local communities in Perth and Kinross have celebrated The 2014 Ryder Cup and I can’t wait to welcome some of the people who have done so much to make the area special to Gleneagles on Sunday. The broad range of Legacy projects supported by both the Council and communities is fantastic and I’m sure we will see the positive results for many years to come. I would like to thank Ryder Cup Europe and the Gleneagles Hotel for providing some of the prizes our well-deserving communities will be receiving.”

Richard Hills, Europe’s Ryder Cup Director, said: “The local community in and around Gleneagles is extremely important to us. We really appreciate everyone’ support and hope the visitors, incremental tourism and global spotlight brought to the region by the event will lead to tangible benefits long into the future. This reception is a great example of the region’s support for The Ryder Cup.”
