Light aircraft located near Abernyte in Perthshire

Emergency services are currently dealing with a major incident involving a light aircraft.

Police can confirm that following loss of contact with a light aircraft, believed to be carrying two people, due to land at Dundee airport at around midday today (Sunday 3rd May 2015) an aircraft has been located near to the village of Abernyte in Perthshire.

Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene. Further information will be issued in due course.

It was reported earlier that witnesses saw the aircraft near the River Tay, in Errol, however that has been verified it was the HM coast guard.

The rescue helicopter has now left the crash scene and now has safely landed back at Dundee Airport.

The two male occupants of the aircraft have been found to be deceased. Police Scotland are investigating the incident along with partner agencies.
