A few complainers have contacted us regarding people selling foods online within Facebook Groups.
We have advised the complainers to contact the council but we have listed below what is required when selling food online.
If you want to sell food you must follow certain rules to stick within the law. This is to protect consumers and to ensure food is safe to eat. – Or face a heavy fine.
First off your kitchen needs to be inspected by the Hygiene Environmental Health. To make sure the workspace is clean and you have the correct clean products such as D2 and D10.
This includes correct storage and other checks will be carried out. – This is required by law.
Secondly, any food needs to be labelled with ingredients, original source and sell by date. (Just like from a supermarket, its no different) – This is required by law.
Selling meats requires full detailed original source and correct packaging.
Basically its no different from a Cafe or a shop, you still need to follow the same rules.
Its to protect you and your business. For any reasons a person becomes very unwell and found your item did not follow any of these basic requirements you could be in a lot of trouble.
The government say: “Registration of food businesses is required by law and allows the Council to keep an up-to-date list of all those businesses and associated premises in the Perth and Kinross area so they can be visited or contacted where necessary.”
This is not legal advice but some basic research following the government requirements. If you need professional advice you can contact the Environmental Health on 01738 476476 or you can email them at FoodHealthSafety@pkc.gov.uk
