Over 125 pupils, families, staff, and volunteers gathered at Strathearn Community Campus earlier this month for Crieff High School’s 13th Annual Night of Champions, a celebration of sporting success hosted by Live Active Leisure’s Active Schools Team and proudly sponsored by Crieff Hydro.
The event, a much-anticipated highlight in the school calendar, honoured the outstanding dedication, improvement, and team spirit shown by students involved in extra-curricular sports throughout the year. Awards were presented across a range of categories, including Most Improved Player, Coaches’ Player, Players’ Player, and Most Dedicated – with nominations submitted by coaches and peers alike.
More than just an awards ceremony, the Night of Champions highlights the vital role sport plays in fostering teamwork, perseverance, and personal development among young people. It also pays tribute to the behind-the-scenes efforts of school staff and volunteers who create inclusive, motivating environments that allow students to flourish.
A highlight of the evening was a keynote speech from guest speaker Abbie Brooks, a Scottish International Badminton player. A former participant in Active Schools programmes herself, Abbie shared her inspiring journey from playing at a local club to becoming a triple champion at the U19 Scottish National Championships – a rare feat not achieved in over a decade.
“Events like the Night of Champions remind us of the powerful role sport plays in shaping confident, resilient young people,” said Nick Kellier, Active Schools Coordinator at Live Active Leisure. “We’re incredibly proud of the ongoing collaboration between Crieff High School and our Active Schools team, which continues to nurture talent and support pupils on and off the field.”
The evening concluded with heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers who make Crieff High School’s thriving sports culture possible – reinforcing a strong sense of community and commitment to youth development through sport.
