Children throughout Scotland, including many from Perthshire, toddled their way towards raising an incredible £13,633 to help Barnardo’s Scotland transform the lives of vulnerable youngsters.

Waves of under-fives joined The Big Toddle 2017 run by the UK’s leading children’s charity which supports hundreds of thousands of children, young people, parents and carers each year.

The charity is again calling for nurseries, schools and families to put their best foot forward and take part in this year’s Big Toddle week from 18th – 24th June 2018. For the second consecutive year the Big Toddle is run in partnership with the much-loved CBeebies TV show, Teletubbies.

This year’s theme is “Nature”, with lots of opportunities for creative dressing up as animals, insects, flowers or even jungle creatures. By signing up to the Big Toddle you can access exclusive nature-themed early years learning resources. Our partners the Teletubbies love outdoor playtime too, with free nature-themed downloads on our website.

Parents, carers and playgroups are encouraged to get involved by organising their own Toddle event. This could include be holding a community Big Toddle, one for families and friends or one organised by a local nursery or primary school.

Barnardo’s Scotland’s Director Martin Crewe said: “The Big Toddle is a great opportunity for the under-5s to have fun with their friends and families and raise money to help disadvantaged children. The nature theme means you can be really imaginative with fancy dress ideas and Barnardo’s has some great resources to help everyone taking part.

“The Big Toddle events organised by communities, nurseries and families are an essential way of helping us continue our vital work supporting vulnerable children, young people, parents and carers.”

Charlotte Hill, Teletubbies’ Brand Director, said: “The Teletubbies love nature and spending time outdoors in Teletubbyland, which is filled with beautiful flower covered hillocks, hopping rabbits and a blue sky sprinkled with white fluffy clouds. We want to encourage very young children to explore and love nature just as much as the Teletubbies do – so we’re delighted to be partnering with Barnardo’s for a second year running.”

Those who register will receive a Big Toddle pack containing information and fundraising ideas. Go to www.bigtoddle.co.uk or call 0800 008 7005 to register or find out more.
