Man arrested in connection with the death of a man in Alyth

Police Scotland confirmed they are carrying out investigations into a suspicious death in Alyth, Perth, and Kinross.

Police called to an address at Hazel Court in Alyth at around 10.00pm on Saturday 3 March 2018 where the body26-year-old man was found.

Police earlier treated the death as unexplained but the death is now being treated as suspicious and police are appealing to the public to help establish the man’s movements on the lead up to his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Patrick from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said : “Following the discovery of a man’s body within a property in Hazel Court in Alyth, I can now confirm that we are treating his death as suspicious and have launched a major investigation to determine the full circumstances.

“I can also confirm that the man who has sadly died is John Donnachy, who was local to the area.

“John would have been known to members of the local community and I am appealing for anyone who saw John anytime on Friday or Saturday to contact us as soon as possible with information about where they saw him and any other details they may have.

“John would have been wearing a dark coloured jacket, dark trousers and green wellies.

“If anyone recalls seeing John in and around Alyth I would ask them to get in touch. Having the knowledge of where he was and approximate timings could be very useful to our investigation.

“Incidents like this are extremely rare in Perth and Kinross and I would like to stress that this has been an isolated and contained incident.

“There has been a police presence in the area of Hazel Court since last night and this will continue for the time being. I would like to again, thank the local community for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out our investigation.”

Perth and Kinross Inspector Robert Prudom added: “Officers from the community policing team will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance and be available to help and speak to any resident.

Police Scotland confirm that a 35 year old man has been arrested in connection with the death of John Donnachy in Alyth, Perth and Kinross.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Patrick said: “Officers will be continuing enquiries in Alyth over the coming days, which will include undertaking searches of the local area, along with house to house and a review of CCTV. I would again like to thank the local community for their patience whilst we carry out this work.’
