Murrayshall Country Estate, just a short drive from Perth, is celebrating a significant rise in junior golf membership following the success of its engaging and accessible youth programme.
The luxury estate has seen its junior section swell to 60 members—a 42% increase since the start of the year—thanks to a renewed focus on encouraging children aged 6 to 18 to take up golf. Around half of these new members joined within the past few months.
Led by Head PGA Professional Robin Smith, who brings more than 35 years of international coaching experience, Murrayshall’s junior programme has created a dynamic and welcoming environment for young golfers of all abilities. Smith’s holiday coaching sessions offer children the chance to learn golf fundamentals on Murrayshall’s scenic parkland courses and practice facilities in a fun and informal setting.
“It’s incredibly encouraging to see such a positive uptake in junior golf at Murrayshall,” said Smith. “We’re always looking to make golf easily accessible and appealing to local youngsters. Seeing them enjoy the game using our best-in-class facilities gives us great pride, as they are integral to the future of golf and our long-term vision.”
To further foster junior engagement, the estate will host a Mixed Junior Open on Monday 4 August, with an accessible entry fee of just £15. Earlier this year, Murrayshall welcomed 20 young players for a Faldo Futures Qualifier and last July hosted the Scottish Boys Under-16 Open on its Championship Course, where competitors tackled greens running at an impressive 11 on the stimpmeter.
Murrayshall’s two golf courses—the 6,100-yard 18-hole Championship Course and the shorter Lynedoch 9-hole layout—offer ideal settings for both seasoned and novice players. The estate has recently benefitted from major investment, propelling it into the Top 11 stay-and-play venues in Scotland. Course enhancements include multiple tee markers—yellow, green, and blue—ensuring golfers of all ages and skill levels enjoy an appropriate and rewarding experience.
As Murrayshall continues to nurture a new generation of players, its commitment to junior development is helping shape the future of golf in Perthshire and beyond.
