A body has been recovered from the River Tay in Perth after a vehicle entered the water on Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 2pm on Tay Street, where police and emergency crews were called to the scene following reports of a car in the water.

Emergency services managed to recover the vehicle from the river, where the body of a man was found inside. He is believed to have been the sole occupant of the car.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 1.55pm on Saturday, July 5, officers were called to Tay Street in Perth after a report that a vehicle had entered the river. The body of a man was recovered from the car. Inquiries are ongoing, but no one else is thought to have been involved.”

Tay Street remains closed while investigations continue, and diversions are currently in place.

Members of the public are being advised to avoid the area to allow access for emergency services.
