Scotland has gone to the polls – exactly three months early – as the nation gets to vote for a new MONOPOLY location in the board game’s 80th anniversary year in a country-wide “beauty” contest, it has just been announced.

Half a dozen Scottish locations have been shortlisted (from an original 20) by MONOPOLY chiefs from across Scotland – from Ayr to Perth.

PerthSQUARES2And ONE lucky location is guaranteed to ‘Pass GO’ and land its’ very own MONOPOLY board for later this year AND in a very special year as it is the world’s most popular board game’s 80th anniversary.

“It’s a year of celebration for us and also for one Scottish location,” says Colin Fisher from the makers of this board.

Polling started on Saturday February 7th – three months to the day before the UK is almost certain to vote in the General Election on May 7th.

The six places shortlisted are:

· Ayr.

· Falkirk.

· Motherwell.

· Perth.

· St. Andrews.

· Stirling.

The city or town that emerges with the most “PRIDE” – say the MONOPOLY bosses – will get their own official board, which will see 22 customised property sites swap places with the likes of Mayfair, Park Lane and Old Kent Road from the MONOPOLY original.

So which of the six could the famous MONOPOLY dice roll on?

“Each are very strong contenders,” says Colin Fisher, Scottish Area Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making this official version of MONOPOLY under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

“The factors that will decide are two-fold. Firstly – and crucially – the strength of popular feeling and pride for a particular city or town. Secondly, the diversity and beauty of potential landmarks to fill the board.”

“So it’s in effect a beauty contest – to borrow a famous MONOPOLY phrase. The only difference is there is no prize for coming second, just first.”

Votes to : election@winningmoves.co.uk or by traditional postal ‘snail mail’ to SCOTLAND, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NP. Polls close at midnight on 28th February 2015.

An announcement of the winning location will be made in the spring (2015).
