For the train lovers out there or the parents and grandparents of a train lover, this weekend Wester Pickston will be opening its doors for the first time this year, for one of only four open days.
You and the family can take a ride on Perth’s very own miniature steam railway, set in 7 acres of woodland countryside.
You’ll not be short of good Perthshire views as you ride behind traction engines on a track through the woodland. The locos will also run from 11.15 – 11.30am depending on passengers and steam! Having given around 1000 Loco rides last year – this Sunday is sure to be busy so head down and say hello to Station Master Trevor Goody! Train rides will be £2 however there is a discount for multiple rides and children under 3 go free.
The Scottish Modelling Engineering trust owns and runs Wester Pickston Railway. SMET was formed as a charity in 2001 and a piece of woodland purchased in rural Perthshire to develop a new club site. A thriving membership has ensured that site has been developed the way the members want without the threat of being moved on. Apart from the railway, the club has acquired new members who are very active with model steam road vehicles including traction engines and lorries. To find out more head over to their website.
