Local bands and artists, street entertainment, chocolate & gin, Ad Lib, Santa’s Grotto, a fun fair and a few celebs thrown in the mix makes for one brilliant weekend of festive fun in Perth.
Dare I even mention which celebs are coming to Perth for the light switch-on, I’m sure you already know! Perth will also brag many other amazing performances and festivities throughout Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
Main stage
Local bands taking to the main stage include our very own Longstay and Last Orders intertwined with music from The Ex Men All Star Band and The Village People Experience. The provost will be flippin’ the big old switch on with Pixie Lott and James Arthur following on from that. Stephen Mulhern will also be joining them on stage (still bitter I wasn’t asked to host..maybe next year Perth eh!?).
Tunes on the main stage will be kicking off from 2.30 pm with Longstay right up approx. 9pm at night. The official light switch-on will be at 6.15 pm.
There are a few more stages too..
Saturday will also boast two other stages including a Year of the Young People stage and a children’s stage. The YOYP stage will include performances from Perth’s Ad Lib, Fair City Baton Twirlers, Goodlyburn Primary School (can I hear a hell yeah for the old stomping ground!), Letham Majorettes (Letham REPRESENT on the YOYP stage this year!), Perth College UHI Musical Theatre and Inspire Studios. This stage will be based out of King Edwards Street and will be open from 12 pm until 5 pm.
The third and final stage dedicated to the wains of Perth will be at Horsecross Plaza (still can’t get over that Perth has a ‘Plaza’). Featuring Titan the Robot, Chloe Ashe, Only One Direction (NOT to be confused with the real deal) and BBC Super Movers Crew. This stage will be open from 12 pm until 5 pm.
On the streets…
The Chocolate and Gin festival will start from 10 am on Saturday boasting stalls from Gin brewers across Scotland including locals Madderty Micro Gin Distillery (try the jam if they have some this year – you will not be disappointed!) as well as Stirling Gin Distillery and Isle of Skye Distillery. The gin festival will be open until until 9pm.
The fun still doesn’t stop there… with masses of street entertainment. A fun fair, ice carving Glacier Art, Ice Caves, Christmas Parade, Santa’s Grotto and obviously the official light switch-on and fireworks in the evening.
Full list of stage times here, however I am just going to recommend you stick your winter coat on and head down for the whole day, mull about, enjoy some mulled wine and visit all of the stages!
Don’t want the fun to end there? Fear not because I’ve got you covered…
On Saturday evening The Green Room Perth will be hosting their own wee Christmas light switch on party featuring bands; Crystal, Bad Hombres, HVSK and Blair Davie. Not too far away The Twa Tams will be getting funky with a Bohemian Monk Machine take over. The Venue will see Chris Small and Sam McMaster playing on Saturday with a DJ upstairs until late!
Who says there is nothing to do in Perth?
Stay tuned tomorrow for our low-down of all the details regarding Sunday FUNDAY featuring two stages of local bands including Perth-based Real Life Entertainment, Bohemian Monk Machine and The Mad Ferret Band to name a few.
